PEPSICO,
INC. (cont'd)
SoBe
- Distribution (cont'd)
- In
its effort to accommodate other channels, South Beach has introduced
new package formats.
- While
up-and-down the street remains a focus, the company has worked
to increase its presence in other channels such as groceries,
club stores, on-premise, convenience and gas stores, health
food stores and mass merchandisers.
- Although
SoBe beverages primarily come in 20-ounce bottles, the company
has introduced new package formats for the special needs of
membership clubs, selling 12-packs of variety cases in places
like BJ's and Costco.
- In
response to distributor demand, the company introduced 11.5-ounce
cans in July 1999. This package was aimed at what the company
calls "non-glass venues like golf courses, beaches and schools.
- In
fall 2003, PepsiCo rolled out SoBe Synergy, a line designed
"specifically as a vending category entry" in schools. Kiwi
Strawberry, Fruit Punch, Mango Orange, Lemonade and Grape
are packaged in 11.5-ounce cans and contain 50% juice.
- SoBe's
latest gambit does not involve packages at all.
- It
has put out a fountain version of Energy, Lean Cranberry
Grapefruit and Power. It plans to place more flavors in
2004.
- It
rolled out its SoBe Ice frozen beverage initiative to thousands
of retail outlets in 2003. Flavors include Power and Energy.
- In
August 2003, the PepsiCo unit introduced SoBe Energy Slurpee
in 7-Eleven stores.
